Concerts

Almost at the end of the first week since half term...what a week...AND what an amazing weekend of music making we are about to embark upon.
Tomorrow (Friday 28th) sees the Music Department take responsibility for the school assembly. Each week a class or department take turns to host the school's weekly assembly and tomorrow it's the turn of the music department! Performers include a vocal solo from Lucy, a piano solo from Monet and a piece by the Concert band.
Saturday is Open Day and another opportunity for music making as we put on a short performance for our visitors: performers today include Concert Band, Junior Chapel Choir and Oliver on the piano. Hopefully any visitors to the school will feel the excitement, which surrounds the music department on a regular basis and also get a true feeling for the benefits, which our department can offer their child.
Saturday evening at 7pm in Walnut, sees our first Chamber Concert. Not only are we to be blessed with an abundance of home grown  talent on Saturday evening, but we are also to be supported by the Jorgensen Trio from the Royal Academy of Music. It promises to be a fabulous evening and we look forward to seeing many of you there.
Apart from Associated Board exams on Mon 17th March, that will be it from the music department for this term! Not a bad term's work, even if I do say so myself!
Advance dates for your diaries: Fri 27th June - summer concert!

Music Scholarship Successes!

Feeling absolutely delighted this morning to have secured not ONE Music scholarship to a major public school, but TWO! Congratulations to both Oliver and Arabella, who have won Music scholarships to Brighton College and Benenden respectively. To say that I am chuffed is an understatement! They worked so hard and these awards are thoroughly deserved. Well done!
Just wishing Rowan the best of luck for his music scholarship to Sevenoaks now: he played amazingly well in assembly this morning and it was a pleasure to hear him produce such a terrific sound on his oboe. Very proud of our two new music scholars, our candidate in waiting and the rest of the music department. The future for this department is really looking extremely strong!

Good grief!

Is it really that long since I posted? I sincerely hope that people don't think that the music department are slacking! Quite the reverse I hasten to add.
Class music lessons are covering ostinato, steel pans and film music amongst other topics. The department is continually buzzing Chamber orchestra had an excellent rehearsal on Monday, where they sight read 'Set fire to the rain' brilliantly.
Rehearsals for the forthcoming Chamber Music Concert on 1st March are continuing apace and we have just been booked to perform at a Garden Party in Fletching. Here's hoping that the weather improves dramatically by then otherwise Handel's Water Music will have to be on the programme!
